I’m never really good at writing news post, but with all the burning hot topics lately, I just can’t turn away from it anymore.

The end of the Sun

Start with a sad news, after years of contribution for developers community, the era of Sun is finally end here. As James from Dzone said, “this could be the most important decision made in the software industry 2009″.

I never see Sun as a really good business model ( I mean in earning money and stuff ), but they brought us developers many amazing products. Hence developers really wonder what will become of Suns’ products such as Java and MySQL. I believe Oracle could take Java to the whole new level which Sun failed miserably before. But what about MySQL. Oracle is famous with its powerful database so what will happen to MySQL – the world’s most popular open source database??? I’m not so sure the answer myself but the latest news, Oracle’s closing down Kenai.com – a Sun’s hosting website do make me wonder what next.

Apple iPad

The next best thing and maybe discussed (even argued) more than the Sun news is the Apple iPad. There is a whole website just to discuss what will the product name before it release. It’s a revolution even when no one know what it looks like. I think it’s a bit extreme really.
The release of the iPad is… well, disappointment for most, but it’s alright for the other. Some call it a bigger iPhone(which is quite true to be honest).

But doesn’t matter if the product is successful or not, I think Apple will still be happy. First is a series of article about how suck the iPad is(Ten things missing from the iPad(Wired), 8 things that suck about the iPad), then a series of how amazing, revolutionary the iPad is (6 Ways Apple’s iPad will shake up the design world, How The iPad Could Change The Face of The Web). But the best series is how people make joke about the iPad :D (The iPad is a Comedy Gold Mine, MadTV IPad, The Apple “i”).

Ipad is a beautiful bit of gadget but I think iPad isn’t gonna be a revolution, well at least for now. It also isn’t really cheap either as many said (compare to a Netbook), a lot of work still need to be done on it. But after all it’s the first generation, it’s still too early to judge the product. I do hope Apple Fans take criticises more constructive as I saw them aggressively argue with any articles said bad things about the iPad (just read the links above, you will see what I mean). Also, I still wonder, is there any way to develop software for the iPad without a Mac PC or running Virtual PC??? It’s always bug me ‘cos I never want to buy a Mac just to develop software for a specific device.

The World (Wide Web) War: HTML5 vs Flash

Thank to Steve Jobs talk and the iPad, the new world(wide web) war started. HTML5 VS Flash. People argue about that everywhere. I mean come on, don’t you see, it’s nothing there to fight about, at least not yet.

HTML5 is started never with the idea of replacing the Flash. HTML5 is brilliant, it support video, a bit of animation, a lot of support for interaction but it’s never suppose to be a RIA. There is a few really good argument about this problem area (why HTML5 is a big thread to Adobe, Does HTML5 stand a chance against Flash technologies?, HTML5’s Flash and Silverlight ‘killer’ potential chopped, Does Flash need saving?), but a lot of other articles are just with no real reason. Some even say Apple loves open standard hence we should follow them :D . Open, Apple, really :( ??? Some said, it’s a standard, every browser will support it. Really??? Tell that to Microsoft :( .

Anyways, back to the matter, I found this article: Flash vs HTML5 – a few points for HTML5 advocates to consider from NWEBB is quite interesting and informative, if you’re interested in the matter, you should check it out, it’s proper constructive.

I’m really excited about the HTML5 and CSS3, and I believe the number of the flash in the world wide web will be decreased but Flash has its place in the web. I myself develop many Javascript techniques to replicate Flash techniques but it’s hell compare with just do it in Flash. And even when the HTML5 is in its stable released, the browser support is also the problem. Flash maybe destroy in the future, but not now, not yet…

After this time I have to admire Steve Jobs, just one announcement from him could influent hundreds (if not thousand) of people and start the series of debate articles.

Let’s checkout some cool effect created with HTML5:
Interactive HTML5 canvas animation
HTML5 Canvas animation
Javascript 3D model viewer

This is important news for up and coming developers and people looking to get onto the web. So that they can possibly take extra time to look into all available options.

Switching systems or transferring files and stuff is very annoying, time consuming and sometimes costly because of downtime..
