Even my blog’s traffic isn’t really high; I’m always addicted to my stats. Get the stats up-to-date is so important. However also as a lazy person, I can’t be asked to go to Wordpress admin / Wordpress.com Stat to get the latest update of my blogs all the time. Furthermore, it doesn’t look good when I open my website at my company. So I decide to put together a quick simple application.

What is does?

It’s simple. The application will get information from Wordpress Stat and show you total how many page views you’ve got today, list of all referrers and the contents have been viewed. The application will auto update every 5 minutes, and display a small balloon notify you how many views you have, and the changes of the contents views. Keep you up-to-date with your latest stat.

Requirement

.Net 2.0 Frameworks
Wordpress.com Stat plug-in is used in your blog system.
You will need to enter your Wordpress API in the application so it could connect to Wordpress Stat API

Install

Unzip the file and run the Wordpress-KPI.exe file. No need to set it up.
If you want it to start automatically, make a short-cut in start menu/startup.

How will it help?

I don’t know how you use the stat, but whenever I see a post have a massive page view, I will add more links to other posts as well. Sure you could do it automatically but for some situation you want more than just automatic.

Also, you know where the traffic comes from, and if you have the traffic thank to someone (he/she post it in Reddit, Digg…), you could thank them straightaway.

The future releases

I’m planning to use this system to get live information from GetClicky and Twitter(search how many links to your site). Wassup is also considered however I don’t know if many people use that or not. Unfortunately Google Analytic doesn’t support API (or so far I know) so it’s impossible to get the update from them.

Also, I want to improve it so it could display the history traffic and some chart as well if necessary.

The code, the very bad code

As it’s nothing more than a draft idea which I try to put it together, so the code the structure everything is really bad. It does its job though. I will have to change almost everything for the future release. For the mean time, you could check the Wordpress Stat API and my favourite XML class. I would love to hear some feedback about them.
